The festival engages with filmmakers, the public and the financing and distribution community through its vast slate of activities. During BIFF, the very large Asian Film Market is also being held, and the festival also hosts the Asian Project Market which helps connect filmmakers with professionals for co-production purposes. This is an interesting section of the BIFF website where you can learn about the filmmakers, see some of their previous film work online, read a synopsis of the film they brought to the APM and even book a meeting. BIFF selected 30 official APM projects for 2013. The festival has the Asian Film Academy as well which helps groom prospective filmmakers with the help of already established film directors from Asia, similar to the Asian Cinema Fund which helps to finance films. The three-day BIFF Conference & Forum will also be held during this year's festival. If you don't know much about Asian film, especially new Asian film, then this is the place to start!
