Yet again I find myself wishing that Netflix had a "women directors" category to search through for films to watch. Do they? Someone let me know if one exists because if it does, I certainly haven't found it yet.
If you haven't yet done so, head on over to WIF's #52filmsbywomen page (& use that hashtag on Twitter!) to take the pledge to watch 52 films directed by women this year. As of the writing of this post, over 7,500 people have signed it. Also check out Barbara O'Leary's amazing website Directed By Women (& use the #directedbywomen hashtag!) to find a plethora of resources about women in film, film events, filmmakers, and much more. There's also Female Directors website which separates films into genres and points you where to watch and buy. Go Watch It also has an excellent listing of films directed by women with a variety of ways for you to find, buy, or rent them.
There are so many posts about what's currently streaming on Netflix, but because Netflix drops and adds titles so frequently, it can be hard to keep up with what is actually current, and you can find yourself reading articles with films listed as streaming on Netflix which you then find have been dropped. Please note that this post is accurate as of the morning of 7/25. So please peruse this current list of narrative feature films directed by women but note it is in no particular order, and only films with women directors having sole credit are included. To be as varied as possible, I have not repeated directors.
If you watch any of these films (or any others directed by women) and then tweet or post to Facebook about them, please tag @HerFilm (on Facebook) or @HerFilmProject (on Twitter) to let me know & I'll share and retweet so others can learn about them and hopefully watch, too.
Happy viewing!
