So it's 2014 and what's better in the new year than a new look? Her Film Project is happy to show off our new (and more user-friendly) website design, but not just that! We have also recently introduced some new initiatives: grants for women filmmakers (see who's on the marketing grant committee), and also something brand new for this new year: partnerships. We're excited to announce our partnership with the forward-looking and pioneering organization Women's Voices Now! This organization works to empower all women living in Muslim-majority societies by promoting their free expression; one way they do this is through an annual film festival. In 2014, the festival theme will be "Women Bought and Sold: Voices United Against the Violence." (Submissions are open until January 31.) We're looking forward to a fruitful and mutually beneficial relationship that helps to encourage more women's voices in the industry, more women's stories on screen, and more women behind the camera! I want to thank Executive Director, Heidi Basch-Harod, for reaching out to Her Film Project to establish this partnership. Visit our new Partners page to learn more.
I am personally incredibly grateful to all of the Her Film Project crew: contributors Adite Banerjie, Katie Carman-Lehach, and Lotus Wollschlager, and Marian Evans (activist extraordinaire!), whose work helps to drive this global project, as well as to our followers on the blog, social media, and offline. Your support and involvement is hugely important and helps to grow a movement to increase opportunities for women in film!
We also have several interviews coming up in the new year with passionate and inspirational filmmakers, including British director Amma Asante, whose new film Belle, which screened at Toronto, will be released in May later this year. Not to be ignored, we also have our Sundance film festival coverage coming up and an exciting film awards season! And don't miss the announcement of the winners of the Her Film Project Marketing Grant for Women Filmmakers later this month!
So stay tuned to the blog and our other activities, and drop us a line to let us know what you think. Do you want to be a Contributor and join the Her Film Project crew? Be a guest blogger? Join us in a partnership? Be a media partner? All your questions should be answered on the website, but if they're not, just let us know by email or on our social media (click on the icons at the top of the page).
Wishing you all a peaceful, happy, and successful 2014!
